About Who?
Aloha! Let me tell you a story about a humorous, funny, guy One
day a Japanese boy was born, his name was Rodney. He was born
and raised on the island of Oahu and grew up with 2 bruddahs and
1 sistah. He was one rascal dude. Every time someone said don't
do something, he went and did it. His mom would tell him "Don't
draw on the walls with crayons",  what does he do? Rubbah band
All the crayons together and run down da hallway.  As Rodney got
older he got into so much trouble!! His poor mom!! Mom decided he
needs something in his life! He seemed to be interested in playing
the ukulele in 4th grade. So his mom asked him " Boy you like learn
how play ukulele?" And Rodney Said "yeah." So Rodney was on his
venture to become a Ukulele playa.

Rodney Started to take lessons and a interest in music. Even if he was lazy sometimes and
didn't want to go to lessons,  Mom was determined. At the age of 14 Rodney was taking
lessons from Roy Sakuma Studios and was in the intermediate school band. Pursuing his
music through the years, Rodney  became quite talented. During his high school years
Rodney played the trumpet and worked his way up to 1st seat.  He played in the high school
jazz band and marching band but, always had his ukulele, he even took some jazz ukulele
lessons.
Rodney then taught ukulele part time with his friend Dwayne for Sonny D Ukuleles where the
students ranged from 6 yrs old to 16 years old. After high school Rodney, Dwayne and Rick
decided to form a band. They practiced and practiced and eventually played for various
events, Graduation parties, Politician's campaigns, Weddings and birthday parties.
Eventually everyone moved on to other things. Rick and Rodney played together for a while
and then they formed a band called Cool Connection with a girl named Jeanne. Rodney's need
for music wasn't satisfying his hunger so he started creating music. Rodney started to write his
own music and again the hunger wasn't satisfying. So Rodney joined another band and
another band. In 1997 Rodney entered the KCCN Ukulele Contest and got called to enter the
finals.
By now Rodney was playing in several bands on Oahu. He played for: Cool Connection, The
Taro Patch Band, Tide Pool Rising, Star Fire, and backed up once in a while for the
Oceanside Band. Rodney had his plate full. But there was something still missing. He decided
to teach ukulele again and realized that is what was missing! The Joy of seeing someone
accomplish a talent or task is the greatest feeling an instructor could ever have!! The joy of
seeing people learn and to know that you've made a difference in their lives gives me the
sense of accomplishment and achievement and I hope the Ukulele can make a difference in
your life as it did in mine!!  Mahalo Again for your support!!                Rodney
